A little about the Club

Ringwood Canoe Club was formed in 1987 with the primary aim of introducing people to the fun of canoeing. The club is principally a 'recreational' one and has grown steadily over the years and has now settled at approximately 50 members, most of whom live within a 20 mile radius of Ringwood.

Affiliated to the British Canoe Union, the club caters for people of all canoeing abilities - from novice to experienced - and organises activities across a very wide spectrum, right through the year. While the club does not have a specific juniors’ section, many children have been introduced to canoeing through our family memberships and introductory courses.

Ringwood Canoe Club offers the ideal way to progress from raw beginner to accomplished canoeist. Progressive training is offered by the club’s qualified instructors both on a formal or casual basis.

Regular Meetings

Unless specific away-events have been organised, the club meets every Sunday at 10:00 for a paddle at Mudeford Quay, at the entrance to Christchurch Harbour. During the summer, we also meet at Mudeford on Tuesday evenings, from 18:30.

Over the winter months, the club also has a number of swimming pool sessions for club members at Ringwood Recreation Centre

A Packed Calendar

The club organises a wide variety of day or weekend trips throughout the year. These range from placid river and open sea trips, through to surfing and whitewater weekends. The only common theme is the absence of competition: we believe in competing against the elements and not each other.

The club goes to considerable lengths to ensure that non-canoeists are not left out. Many events accommodate the entire family, including summer picnics, barbecues, beer and skittles evenings and weekend trips away

Safety in Numbers

Canoeing is safer in the company of trained instructors and other club members. The club has a number of qualified instructors and maintains a range of safety equipment.

It doesn’t cost the earth

Whilst many of our members have their own boats, the club has a fairly comprehensive set of equipment so new members can come canoeing on a regular basis without any financial outlay. Our trips are planned with low cost as a priority.

Come and try it

If you like the sound of all this, but are still not quite sure whether it’s really your scene, why not come and find out? To discover what events are coming up soon that are likely to appeal to you, and to enable us to arrange a kayak/canoe and equipment, all you need to do is contact :-
